*ANOTHER* PdP Artist Trivia Contest!!! Get a chance to win a Kneil Melicano-designed laptop sleeve!

We’ve twisted our Artist Spotlight a bit. We tried as much as possible to get hold of Kneil Melicano (Jen even went to Singapore - but for another reason :p) but he’s just busy spreading his lagim in Singapore la!

Regardless, we thought we got some insightful (yes, they really are!) words from Kneil in our interview with him. 

HOW TO WIN A KNEIL MELICANO LAPTOP SLEEVE:

PDP: What got you into graphic design? 
KM: Well I’ve been pretty much drawing all my life and graphic design had the promise of being the next best thing at that time, so it was like destiny. Like pao and noodles.

PDP: Did you have any formal training? If so, where? If not, how did you learn?
KM: Formal training is always school. But I’ve seen a lot of people take up Graphic Design or Fine Arts because it has a facade of “cool”. I believe it’s more than that. Design instincts and having an eye for it are key.

PDP: What motivated you to submit designs to Threadless?
KM: Being straight out of college and working at a small company doing crappy DTP jobs. I was broke basically.

PDP: How did you react when Threadless said they’d print your design?
KM: Like a manna dropped from the heavens.

PDP: What is/are your favorite distraction/s?
KM: Music and procrastination

PDP: What’s the weirdest thing about Kneil Melicano?
KM: I’m normal! My imaginary friends think so.

PDP: What are your thoughts on hipsters?
KM: They’ve taken over Cubao Expo. LOL

PDP: What’s your favorite pick-up line?
KM: I don’t do pick-up lines. It’s silly.

PDP: How has working in Singapore been?
KM: Blast. I’ve been learning a lot about the difference in their aesthetic and design culture. 

PDP: Which of your works is your favorite?
KM: Hmmm, they all take a special place in my heart. But I’m at a crossroads at the moment between connecting my new style and the old one, and I know it’s still yet to be made.

PDP: What motivates you to do what you do?
KM: Baby, i hate to say it but sometimes it’s all about the money. Shoot me! if you don’t get paid well at what you do, rethink your options. Or NOT. Because love of craft can get you mac and cheese and pay for the mounting bills.
