PdP Spotlight: Marketing/Blogging Intern Jonver David

Jonver is a tireless ball of energy. In spite of coming all the way from Bulacan, and juggling work, his internship at PdP and his blog, he still manages to be everywhere, participating in PdP activities and covering events for his blog. Here, our marketing intern, who is actually a Nursing graduate from FEU, chats with us about his internship at PdP.

Why did you apply for an internship position at PdP?

I had just finished my board exam when I received the email confirming my interview with Punchdrunk Panda, and I thought of it as a break from my usual environment. Plus, I also really wanted to learn something new.

Who did you directly report to? How is it working with that person?

I reported to Jen, Gail, and Nica. But most of the time, I worked with Jen and Nica. It was really fun working with them. I find them relaxing to be with - even though the stress is up to the neck (for example, with Anteroom Sessions).  And most of the time, we’re having milk tea, which is always a plus.

Can you talk about your most memorable experience in this internship?

Anteroom Sessions is the most memorable project I have ever handled - not only in PdP, - but in my life. Well, so far. I can’t even fathom how I managed to run all over the place during Anteroom Sessions, even when I was sick that day. I was even more surprised when I wanted to repeat it even though I was almost paralyzed and couldn’t even talk after the event.

What did you have the most fun doing?

I really had fun preparing for Anteroom Sessions. Though I was only half-involved, since I had a full-time job aside from my internship. I really liked the event preparation - especially having bands and pop-up shops and a lot of others on the side. I thought of it as a mini-Cubao X event.

Is there one thing you won’t ever forget from this internship?

Yes. The role of milk tea in my life as an intern! LOL!

Did your internship encourage you to apply for a full-time position at PdP?

Yes, of course. I see PdP as a promising brand and I love to be more involved in the nitty gritty of it. I might not have taken marketing as a degree but I can identify a brand worth marketing for. And there are a couple of values that I love about PdP - the passion for Filipino artists and the drive to stand out.

You don’t have a marketing background yet you still applied for the marketing position, what advice would you like to give aspiring young marketers?

Marketing is two things - getting the word out and making it stay. You have to find a way for your brand to make a mark. It will not be easy - even with social media, which makes it seems easier - but it’s a hella lot of fun tinkering around it. Define what makes your brand stand out and capitalize on it. Lastly, don’t quit. Ever.

PdP Spotlight: Marketing/Management Intern Pat Remoquillo

We first worked with Pat as a model in a photo shoot we had last March 2011, and seeing her charming personality and compelling CV, we were more than eager to work with her as an intern. Pat is a 3rd year Management student at Ateneo de Manila University, an active core member of the Loyola Film Circle, a member of the ADMU Softball Varsity, and the owner of Breeks bakeshop/café in Xavierville (which Nica and Jen declare has the best cheesecake!), whew! Read on to see what this Type A personality had to say about her internship at PdP.

Why did you apply for an internship position at PdP?

I felt like I needed something outside of school, that would help me grow more as a business person. I wanted to experience what marketing really was in real life—not just in org work or in theory. Also, since I’ve worked with PdP already, I knew the people were super fun to be with! So I also thought it would be a good experience!

What were your expectations for this internship?

I expected more paper work, really! Like, I expected making phone calls, writing lots of letters and signing agreements! Instead, I got to meet colorful people, helped out in a fun shoot and really fun events!

Who did you directly report to?

I directly reported to Jen and sometimes, Nica! It was really good working with Jen since she was very patient with me, especially since I have a super hectic schedule! I learned a lot from her since it was my first time working with a real boss – she was very organized, had everything down, very meticulous.

Can you talk about your most memorable experience in this internship?

I would say it would be my first MMM experience (My Masterpiece Movement is a group of teaching artists PdP collaborated with for PdP’s Community Creativity Camp). I can never forget how we sorta just blocked out the world and focused on being our own masterpiece. It’s like I became a kid again. This experience was one of the perks of being an intern. Not only did I experience something amazing and eye opening, but I learned something new about myself.

What’s your funniest experience at PdP?

I will never forget getting stuck in Moonleaf because of the rain! I didn’t have an umbrella and no way home so it was really something! On my way to the car, my foot sunk in mud so yeah — not forgetting that.

What did you have the most fun doing?

I loved the shoot we had for the new shoes!! I loved being hands-on with decorating the walls, helping out the models and of course, working behind the scenes! It was really fun meeting and working with new people!

Is there one thing you won’t ever forget from this internship?

I’ll never forget the people. I had a really good time learning new things from Jen, Nica and even from my fellow interns. They were really colorful people to get to know and I saw things in a different light.

What would you tell other people interested in being PdP interns?

Yes, definitely! I’d tell the students that not everything work related is dull or stressful. At PdP, they will learn that it is possible to have fun while getting things done! That it is important to do the things you love because really, you will always find yourself going back to your roots.

With a shared frustration with the lack of affordable, funky, functional laptop sleeve, Jen & Gail combined their powers to design the funkiest, yet most practical laptop sleeves.

This idea eventually trickled down to other products on which graphic designs aren't conventionally applied onto such as footwear, camera straps, etc. :D

Today, Punchdrunk Panda continues to grow its pool of artists with each release while finding new products to apply designs onto. All this is done to fulfill their mission to funkify the world by ridding it of one boring product at a time.
