Logo Design-making Process for Vero
Classy logo and packaging for Vero.I’m not familiar with the brand but it’s interesting to see the process behind creative pursuits. Even when they are client-commissioned. :P
The simplicity of the studies gives the impression that logo design isn’t all that hard, but I do believe that a lot of prior thinking goes into the process before actual execution. Logos are meant for longevity after all, so there has to be an amount of certainty or trust in the final logo.
Read the article to find out more. The designer, Jacob Cass, details it quite well and shares his own helpful hints in logo design. :)

PdP Spotlight: Design Intern Pat Manlapas

Pat Manlapas, or Patman, may seem like a timid creature, but one will be shocked with the sudden dance moves she can bust out, and her unabashed love for K-Pop. She recently graduated with an honorable mention in Multimedia Arts from DLSU-CSB, and she enjoys web and graphic design, and making random illustrations of sushi, monsters and chibi-fied friends.

Now that her internship stint is over, PdP asks her a few things about her experience as a design intern. :)

Why did you apply for an internship at PdP?

I was introduced to PdP by my sister and after I checked out their website and learned about PdP I was excited to know that there’s actually a place for local artists to collaborate and make designs for products. And since I was going to be free after graduation, I decided to try out an internship with PdP. :P

Of course I was excited to make designs for PdP but before I could do that, I had to prove myself worthy of designing for PdP by working as a graphic design intern and I think I have contributed a lot during my internship especially through the events that we had.

What did you have the most fun doing?

I had a fun time making newsletters for PdP! :P It’s probably because I love designing and making layouts for small-scale graphics stuff. I also got to explore different concepts for the newsletter depending on the announcements we had and gave a different look to each one which I hope helped gain the readers’ interest in finding the latest news with PdP. :)

Which of your designs for PdP did you like the most?

Anteroom Sessions paraphernalia! :D We had plenty of revisions, a lot of different layouts to make and everything was in a rush but I was so happy when we finally got everything posted online, also the banners and tarps at Moonleaf’s place. I was even happier that the event was very successful and I contributed to making that happen! Yey! Congrats again! :D

Who did you work directly with at PdP?

I was mostly consulting with Boss Gail(yes I love calling them bosses :P). Even though we are countries apart, it was not at all difficult to communicate with her since she was available through email, YM and FB.  She assisted me with my concerns and she would generously show her appreciation for the work I’ve done and that was my way of knowing that I did a good job and that was my motivation as well!

Aside from Boss Gail, I also reported to Boss Jen for most of the working duties like the photoshoot, Anteroom Sessions and the Community Creativity Camp (CCC). She’s always open to our ideas/suggestions and tries to work with it whenever possible.  Jen is also like a big sister to me! :) She makes sure we get home safe and she’s always trying to get me out of my shell (still working on it Boss! :’3) which I find really nice about her. :)

I would say that my 2 bosses are my idols when it comes to the business world because they are able to have fun and be successful at the same time!

What’s your most memorable experience from this internship?

My most memorable/embarrassing experience with PdP was the first day on the day of my interview.  I had the impression that you have to be really formal when meeting your employer so I was all dressed up in long sleeves, slacks and heels and when I got to the office I was greeted by this lady (Jen) who was just in her shorts and a flimsy blouse and I thought she cannot possibly be my employer. When the interview started and she was the one seated in front of me, that’s when I knew I was wrong and I was overdressed for the occasion haha! X|

What’s your funniest experience at PdP?

When we had the Anteroom Sessions event at Moonleaf, we set up our booth and I was selling laptop sleeves, shoes and other stuff with Nica. There was a time the customer orders kept piling up that we were getting frantic with what we had to do. We even gave out mismatched shoe sizes! Thankfully we were able to get it right and survived the busy night.

Is there one thing you won’t ever forget from this internship?

I’ll never forget the company I had with the PdP people :) I may be shy and quiet most of the time but I enjoy the times we spent together as the PdP team. We may not see each other often but I feel closer to PdP especially during our milk tea sessions! Hehe :P I also won’t forget our Anteroom Sessions! It was the best feeling that we made it through the rough and busy night and it was all worth it. :)

What would you tell fellow artists about PdP?

I’d definitely recommend my fellow artists to intern at PdP especially those who are fresh graduates like me! Working with PdP is a fun experience, you get to meet a lot of people, share ideas, create designs together and experience the different sides of the business, and at the same time, the PdP people will guide you throughout the internship so you won’t get lost on your way.  :)

With a shared frustration with the lack of affordable, funky, functional laptop sleeve, Jen & Gail combined their powers to design the funkiest, yet most practical laptop sleeves.

This idea eventually trickled down to other products on which graphic designs aren't conventionally applied onto such as footwear, camera straps, etc. :D

Today, Punchdrunk Panda continues to grow its pool of artists with each release while finding new products to apply designs onto. All this is done to fulfill their mission to funkify the world by ridding it of one boring product at a time.
